The Urgent Pursuit of Rediscovering what Lights You Up

life lessons Nov 16, 2024

Whats up!

Yesterday, I pushed myself to run a mile as fast as I could, clocking in at eight minutes and 15 seconds. Now, if you know me, that's about two and a half minutes slower than my personal best. It got me thinking about how running, which I’ve loved all my life, has been my therapy and joy. Over time, I've let it slide and neglected it cuz life got busy. And that reminds me, time flies, and we're all getting older.

Reflect on What You Love

This whole experience made me pause and ask: What else have I let drift away that used to bring me happiness? What hobbies or passions have I been ignoring? It’s a wake-up call to reassess what we love and want to hold on to before it's too late.

The Joy Challenge

Here's a little challenge for you (because why should I have all the hard questions?): What's that one thing you used to enjoy that you've put on the back burner? Take a moment to think about it. What’s something that lights you up inside but has been gathering dust lately?

Taking Steps to Rekindle Joy

Once you've identified it, let’s make a plan. Choose one action you can take this week to give that passion some tender love and care. It doesn’t have to be huge—just a small step to get back on track. Whether it’s scheduling time to play an instrument, signing up for a class, or even blocking out time on your calendar to enjoy a simple hobby, make it happen!

Insights for a Happier Life

- Recognize what charges your battery: Reflect on activities or passions you’ve neglected. Write em down

- Take small, actionable steps: Commit to one simple action to revive that passion. Here’s a suggestion; pick a day in the next week to do that simple action and invite a friend to be a part of it.

- Embrace the journey: Enjoy the process of rediscovery and learning what brings you joy. It may take several attempts, and working through several action steps to actually get back on the horse.

We often hear about work-life balance, but maybe it's really about more joy in our work and life. Finding time for passions inevitably improves the quality of our lives and sometimes even expands our influence, as we become more vibrant and engaged people.

So, what are you waiting for? Embrace the challenge, take action, and give yourself permission to find joy again.

Stay cool, and talk at you next time.

Peace✌️
