Is there a Prize in the Darkness?

Im gonna tell you a little about Story #1 but first I gotta tell you the book does not have chapters as it is a collection of 20 personal experiences I had over the years. You may be surprised to know I deviated from the norm, first with the chapters and second with the stories as they are not in chronological order. My advisor / editor / friend Kim White selected the order and she did an outstanding job in saving the stories packed with the heaviest serving of emotions at the end.

Back to Story #1 and the question: Is there a Prize in the Darkness? I tell the story behind the title of the book, which occurred while I was in rehab. Yes that kind of rehab. You may not know but I have wrestled with addiction for most of my life. And in my addiction there is plenty of darkness, miles and miles of hollow empty darkness. Where shame & fear echoes back and forth for as long as I will let it.

I checked into rehab because I needed help and I didnt want to go to prison, at first it was an effort in self preservation. But the outcome was far greater than I expected. I found purpose & value in my shortcomings. My regrets became lessons others could learn from. But I had to come to terms with a powerful idea that had escaped me for many years.

This powerful idea was gifted to me by one of my counselors. He said to me "You will never become the promise you are intended to be if you continue to live life the way you are living it" I know exactly how I felt when I heard his words and it makes me wonder🤔

How do these words land with you? Do you wonder about the promise you are intended to be? Are you thinking "how am I doing this life thing, am I majoring in the minors"?

The whole reason I wrote this book is because my friend Lee, told me that my story impacted him in a deep way and that I should write a book because my story could help other people. Lee also wrote the forward to this book and Id love for you to get a double sneak peak of the forward and the audio version of the book.
