MEET JESSE

Jesse was born and raised on the Southside of San Antonio Texas.

The landscape of his Career ranges from grading ditches to counseling Executives. His trek through the Org Charts has helped him appreciate that we are more alike than we are different. He applies these insights in escorting professionals in self-discovery, as they expand their influence in their communities and their careers.

As a lifelong San Antonian, SAISD alumnus and 2^nd generation Plumber; Jesse is committed to Enhancing the Image of Careers in the Trades. I am not skilled enough to concisely and adequately describe the impact Jesse Hernandez has had on my life. Although I’ve known the fun and free Jess for 4+ years, I had the truly humbling experience of Jesse wanting to talk to me for “a little while” at the LCI Congress in October 2021. That short conversation lasted 3 or more hours. Secrets were shared and true personalities were easily reveled. During that conversation, and of course something I didn’t realize at that time, Jesse gave me space to be me. That might sound crazy to some, but for me as a Type A, oldest child, people pleaser, it was something I had not encountered before. Jesse has an unmatched talent of allowing people to be. This talent allows him to ask unbiased questions with perspective most individuals wouldn’t know existed. Not only is he able to refrain from leading and telling questions, Jesse get ma to know the people he is surrounded by so well that his questions jump straight to the root causes / fears. I think my favorite part of his process is that he’s constantly asking if he’s on the right track. He is not here to tell you what you are thinking, what you are feeling, or what you should do. He wants to provide clarity and shine light on the path that best suits you. That is a skill VERY few have and even fewer desire. Jesse, you have me questionating myself every day & slowly starting to answer my own questions / own my own impact.

Jesse Hernandez has been a phenomenal mentor and coach in the 4+ years I’ve known him—so much so, that I continue to seek his guidance even though we no longer work at the same company. His overarching drive is to make life better for those he serves. He’s a great listener and goes out of his way to see how I am doing. He listens patiently and doesn’t try to solve problems for me, but he is happy to offer more direct advice if I ask for it. He is adept at asking the right questions that help me see problems in a new light, empowering me to take the next steps in solving it myself.

One thing I really appreciate is his responsiveness. Despite all the work he has on his plate, he doesn’t leave me hanging if I reach out. If he can’t talk at the moment, he’ll send a text in short-order to let me know when he is available, and it’s almost always the same day.

Jesse exudes positive energy. No matter what challenges he or I face, he is always filled with optimism. Just being around him builds my confidence in handling any situation. That is why, of all the great leaders and mentors I’ve had the pleasure of associating with over my career, Jesse is the first person I call when I need to talk through a situation or get some advice.

He has a genuineness about him to a level that is very special. This is manifested through personal transparency and vulnerability, and a sincere desire to develop other people. He is a passionate people-person who loves to give and receive feedback. As a true Lean practitioner, he leads by example, always seeking self-improvement and never gives off an heir of ultimate expertise or condescension. I love this about him.

He has a keen eye to see individuals’ strengths and weaknesses and tailors his coaching to them. Nothing is boilerplate. He understands how nuanced and complex every person is and develops each in a way that is unique to them.

I have become a better professional and person since knowing him, and I attribute a big portion of that to Jesse’s influence and genuine friendship. I expect our relationship to continue for many years to come, and I would not hesitate to work with him again in any capacity.

Jesse has a superpower that it hard to define, but I am going to try. There are many people that have come into my life and helped me learn, helped me grow and helped me succeed. Jesse has a way of seeing potential and opportunities that go undiscovered by most people. The mold was broken with Jesse. I have never been around someone that is so aware of what could be, and isn’t afraid to put it into words.

Our construction industry has so much potential and so many amazing people. These two facts are what brought Jesse and I together. Out paths crossed over and over again in the lean construction space. The moment Jesse decided I was a person worth investing in, it completely changed me from the inside out. Jesse has helped me take many leaps of faith without knowing the outcome, encouraged me to own my impact and has forever changed how I show up. The time he has invested in me as a person has made me a better communicator, listener, lean practitioner, questionator, leader, friend, mom and human being.

Jesse’s superpower empowers him to encourage, impact and elevate everyone around him. I am thankful and excited to be on this journey as he continues to make our world a better place for the people doing the work.
